Positive Behaviour

Student discipline is a critical factor to promote principles of safety, responsibility, respect, appreciation of differences, honesty, and life-long learning. It is important that students learn to be accountable for their conduct. Thus the following system carefully identifies rules (points system) with the necessary structure for their firm, fair, and consistent implementation.

Incident reporting

Teachers have the facility to use the Behaviour Monitoring System available on the e1 platform.

Some student discipline issues are resolved through one-to-one counselling with a teacher, guidance teacher and counsellor or school administrator. In some cases a Student Monitoring Sheet is given to the student. This sheet is to be filled by the teacher after every lesson indicating the student’s behaviour during his/her lesson. This helps the student remember that his/her conduct should be good throughout the whole day.

Incidents are divided into 3 Levels as shown in the table below. Every incident reported carries points and additional measures. If a number of points, from a particular Level, are accumulated in a particular month then the student has to face Consequences as shown in the table below. Consequences may be Mid-Day Break Detention and 40 minutes After School Detention. 40 minutes After School Detentions will be given in collaboration with the student’s parents. No permission slip is required for the After School detention.

Other Consequences (in special cases and cases of accumulation of Points)

College Prefect of Discipline. Attend Half Day Saturday School

In more serious issues and cases of excessive accumulation of points other harsher Consequences may be taken. Temporary Suspension from School (also known as exclusion) prohibits students from attending school. Also a student may be asked to attend for a Half Day Saturday School, s/he must attending wearing the school uniform and be prepared to be engaged in extra work.

The most serious disciplinary approach, an expulsion, requires approval from the College Principal, and removes the student from school for a period of time.

Definitions/explanations of some of the Incidents:

  • Littering – refers to a student who leaves rubbish and unwanted material in the grounds, on the floor, under desks and sticks chewing gum (which is prohibited on the school premises and on the school transport) onto furniture, etc
  • Possession of Mobile phones – Mobile phones found on a student or in her personal belongings, whether on or off.
  • Incorrect Uniform – This refers not only to the type of clothing worn but also to the colour, dye and hairstyle as well as to nail polish and piercings as listed on the Uniform Dress Code.
  • Inappropriate language – Swearing, foul language as well as rude words or gestures.
  • Loitering – Hanging around somewhere for no good reason.
