The Adventure of Food

SAFE is an Erasmus project designed to raise awareness among EU citizens about sustainability, with a particular focus on consuming locally produced food. Thirty students attending St Theresa College, Secondary School Mriehel are participating in this project. The project involves participants from North Macedonia, Greece, Italy, Finland, Romania, and Malta.

As part of the project’s dissemination efforts, students created a book titled The Adventure of Food, which will be distributed in selected primary schools across Malta. Entirely developed by the students—including the text, illustrations, and digital design—the book showcases their creativity and commitment to sustainability. During a mobility last December, it was also introduced to 10-year-old students in Romania, who participated in interactive activities that deepened their understanding of sustainable eating. The students thoroughly enjoyed these hands-on experiences, making learning both engaging and immersive.

Engaging and visually appealing, The Adventure of Food highlights a variety of fruits and vegetables grown locally, demonstrating how they can be incorporated into a balanced diet to help reduce carbon footprints. It includes nutritional information, delicious recipes, and interactive QR codes that provide access to additional resources online. The book promotes the “Farm to Fork” concept, encouraging sustainable food consumption and greater awareness of local produce. The book may be read by following this link.

Beyond their international experiences, students involved in the Erasmus project developed valuable skills such as intercultural communication, time management, multilingualism, creativity, and the ability to work under pressure.
