Five students recently participated in an Erasmus mobility program in Turin, where they engaged in workshops focused on sustainability and the importance of reducing food waste. During their time there, the students learned practical strategies for making eco-friendly choices in daily life, as well as methods to minimize waste in food preparation and consumption. These hands-on workshops provided them with valuable insights and skills to promote sustainability, which they are excited to bring back to their school and community.

The following are some of the students’ thoughts about this experience:
Joining the Erasmus program was a unique and unforgettable experience that offered me so much more than just travel. This programme was an incredible experience that gave me both practical knowledge and a deeper understanding of Italian culture. I attended an Italian school where I learned about food waste, food chemistry, and coding, which opened my eyes to the importance of sustainability. Making friends with students from other countries added a rich layer to the experience.
Exploring Turin’s cultural heritage was very educational. Visiting museums like the Mole Antonelliana Cinema Museum, Egyptian Museum, and Lavazza Museum, as well as landmarks like Grinzane Castle, helped me appreciate Italy’s artistic and historical depth. Seeing iconic film props at the National Cinema Museum was particularly memorable, while visiting the Ziccat Chocolate Factory taught me about Italian chocolate-making.
My favourite part of the program was visiting the cheese production facility. Since cheese production was part of my biology syllabus last year, seeing it firsthand enriched my understanding of cheese fermentation, especially as biology is my favourite subject. Volunteering at Caritas was a rewarding experience of both learning and giving back. We prepared meals using surplus food close to expiration from local supermarkets, It showed me how small actions can make a meaningful difference in reducing food waste in the community.
This Erasmus experience offered me priceless knowledge, rich cultural experiences, and friendships from different countries. It was a journey of learning, personal growth, and meaningful connections that I’ll cherish forever.
